deep in the DNA series

Please join The Child Welfare Truth Telling Collective in a three-part series where we shift our focus toward understanding the why of child welfare systems. Why do child welfare systems function this way? We will identify and unpack colonizing codes, those deeply engrained ideas and beliefs that form the ‘DNA’ of child welfare systems and shape everyday practices.  In this webinar series, we will be taking steps to regain our humanity in everyday child welfare practices.

research project recruitment

The goal of this project is to create space for the voices of Black grandmothers to flourish regarding the issues they face and their relationships with child welfare workers. Photovoice is a participatory research method that combines photography with storytelling to empower communities and individuals. In this study, participants will use their cell phones to take photographs that represent their experiences as kinship caregivers. They will participate in group discussions where they share their photos and stories and engage in a dialogue about the challenges and joys of their role. Photovoice is grounded in the values of reciprocity, community development, and social resistance.
